Hutt Rotary Club
ANNUAL MEETING j TJie second annual..meeting of the Rotary Club of Hutt was held on Wednesday last. The retiring president, Mr. C. H. Griffin, made feeling reference to the death of one of the club's Charter members, Mr. Tom Waugh, and, of Past District Governor, Will Thomas, members standing in silence. The club's membership at 30 June was 48 and the average attendance was 86.98 per cent. Seven members recorded attendances of 100 percent for the year, two of whom held the maximum since the club's inception. Five club members attended the annual conference at Auckland, and three members attended the District Assembly at Palmerston North. Again this year a most successful Christmas picnic was arranged for, the boys of the Anglican Boys' Home and St. Thomas's Catholic Boys" Home, and Santa Claus distributed gifts to everybody present. Soldiers parcels of chocolate and tobacco were sent to nominees of members in the Forces. It is hoped to establish the sons and daughters evening which was commenced this year as an annual event. Two picture evenings and two Rotariannes evenings were voted a great success during the year. Among other interests undertaken by the various committees, the prospects of establishing a Youth Hostel in the Valley has . been given considerable thought; great interest is being displayed in the Speech Therapy Clinic to which a much needed hearing aid has been donated; interest is being taken n the work of Heritage, Toe H., /.M.C.A., Boy Scouts Association, and R.S.A. The following officers were elected: President, Mri J. A. Jacques: vice-president, Mr. M. W. Ralph; Past. President, Mr. C. H. Griffin: directors, Messrs C. E. Moran, L. V. Phillips, H. D. Guthrie and G. R. Pitkethley; Sergeant-at-arms, Mr. Fred hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr. A. J. Gearing; hon. auditor, Mr. A. Ackroyd.
