—# MISS E. DARBY Members of the Hutt River Board tnd a number of friends met in the 3oard Room recently to farewell tliss E. Darby who is shortly to be narried to Flying Officer W. Busby, vho recently returned after four r ears of active service The chairman of the Board (Mr. i\ S. Hewer), said that it was wi'th ieep regret that they were losing diss Darby after 15 years of faithul service to the Board. He ras very pleased that Mr. Busby had eturned safe and sound after a disinguished war career. They were aking up farming together and he rished them every success and hapiness in their new venture and maried life. On behalf of the Board Mr. Hewer resented Miss Darby with a cheque, nd granted her six months leave of bsence; also a number of useful omestic articles from members ot tie Board and personal friends. The following members and past lembers of the Board joined with tie chairman in paying tribute to liss Darby's valued past services, nd conveyed to her every good rish for her future happiness: Dr. t. J. Dudley, Messrs G. S. Young. r . A. Draper, A. Maud, J. W. Anrews, W. H. Smith, A. J. Gearing secretary to the Board), W. Gregry, H. Cates and Mr. F. Bognuda rho spoke on behalf of the shingle uppliers. Mr. H. Slallen (engineer o the Board) also spoke of Miss )arby's efficiency. Miss Darby briefly replied, thankng all for their good wishes and andsome presents. MISS WOODHOUSE Prior to the Easter vacation, a umber of valedictory socials were eld at the Hutt Valley High School 11 honour of Miss Woodhouse who as been attached to the teaching taff since 1928. On the eve of her etirement Miss Woodhouse was the ;uest of honour at a social and ance organised by the senior pupils t which the Board of Governors vas epresented by the chairman, Mr. D. 1.. Ewan, accompanied by Mrs. Ewan, lr and Mrs. J. S. Hunter, and Messrs I. G. Teagle and N. Dalmer. Mr. nd Mrs. Calvert represented the Par ents' Association. ■ In paying tribute to Miss Woodlouse and thinking her for her long ,nd faithful service to the school, ILt. Ew*an said that she was one of he few lady teachers who undertook he work in some of the more mportant boys' schools during the ast war. Referring to her great uccess as a teacher, Mr. Ewan made •articular reference to Miss Woodlouse's valuable work with the girls' ennis team, also with the school's ife saving teams. Miss Woodhouse was the recipient >f presentations from the school ind staff and warmly thanked the jhairman for his kind remarks and .he school and staff for their presentations.
