HIGH SCHOOL OLD PUPIL SAVES BOY'S LIFE
' r ■ Suffering no ill effects - from having plunged into harbour at Beaehiaven, Auckland, on Sunday to reeetie a boy, Graham Jones, of Birkenhead,, Leading Aircraftwoman Sylvia Mary Hoggard, •who is attached to an Auckland Aii Force station, was very modest about ■ ■ her plucky action when interviewed on Tuesday. • Leading Aircraftwoman Hoggard, .who is only 19 yaars old, is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. R. Hoggard, - pf Lowry Bay, Wellington. She has taken, a keen interest in swimming, •< and while attending the liu.tt Valley School, in 1040, was awarded cup for a junior swimming championship. Miss Hoggard also possesses the bronze medallion and bar of the New Zealand Life Saving Society. Prior to enlisting with the W A.A.F.s 13 months ago she was employed as a shipping clerk witli the Montreal-Australia-New Zealand Line in Wellington. While acting ,as coxswain of ~ n ■ 3t.N.Z,A.F launch passing Beachhaven onySunday she saw that someone had fallen into the water. She immediately dived in fully dressed ' and rescued the boy. ,
