Scouting

I Ik-lln, Kvi v ryl)<jcl t v We liojh' u record crowd will turn up at To l'um's Concert on Wednesday and Thursday night as the troop is on u really good show. Last Friday the Camplire Team and a Rover I'arty visited Uehnont. The singing was very good and everyone joined in games after the Camplire. it. was a very enjoyable get-together. The next Campfire will be held at St. Augustine's, I'etone, on Saturday October 9tli. First class tests in first aid, signalling, pioneering and mapping will be taken at First Lower Huit Scout Hall on Saturday, October l(i at 2 p.m. In 1019 the Boy Scouts in the British Isles held 5 7 acres of land as camp sites and training grounds. They now have 1834 acres set aside for their exclusive use. In New Zealand very little attention has been paid to this question as in the past the generosity of public bodies and landowners has been gratefully accepted. Times are changing and here in the Hutt Valley wejire faced with an immediate and urgent need for land where Scout and Cub activities can be carried on within easy reach of our various group headquarters. Attention is being given to this matter right now, as part of a County progress policy. Finance is necessary, of course, but no doubt ways and means will be found.
