Advice has been received that the Member for Hutt Electorate, Hon. W. Nash, who has been the New Zealand Minister to Washington lor some time, will shortly return to New Zealand for the purpose of consulting with the Government. He will also introduce, the Budget which will be presented to the House at ag early a date as possible. The "New York Times" says it is questionable whether Mr. Nash will return to Washington.

A 10 per cent will be added to all River Board rates unpaid by 31st March.

The acting member for Hutt Electorate, Mr. H. Combs, is advised by the Minister of Education that Cabinet has approved of a grant for the erection o£ additional accommodation at the Waiwhetu Public School.

At last week's meeting of the Hutt River Board it was decided to send a letter of sympathy to Mr. F. J. Jones, an .ex-chairman of the Board, .who is seriously indisposed, and the wish was expressed that he would make a speedy recovery.

At a recent meeting of the Hutt "River BoaM an application to erect 8, shingle plant in the vicinity of Melling Bridge was referred to a committee including the whole board with the engineers of both the City Council and the River Board and the Town Planning Committee of the Council. It was pointed out that it was not''desirable to erect shingle plants in certain localities which had an aesthetic value.

At the - February meeting of the City Council it was decided that a sub committee should investigate the advisability ,of establishing a compulsory stop for all motor traffic at the corner of Waterloo Road and Cornwall Street, and at Monday's meeting the by-laws committee advised that, the suggestion was not recommenced by the Automobile Association and it was decided to take no further a<^fc»n.
