FIRE BOARD '
At last week's meeting of the Lower Hutt Fire Board the question' of the proper supervision of fire prevention at the local picture theatres was made the subject of an enquiry to be investigated .by the Superintendent. I
Mr. H. V Horlor was of the opinion that the appointment of a fireman at the theatz'es should be made by the Fire Board and not by the tlieatfe proprietors; also that the public should be trained in the habitual use of the safety exits so that they would become familiar with them when required in an emergency. The chairman (Mr F. Campbell), said the appointment of firemen at the theartes had been made by the City Council but Mr. Horlor contended that this was now the func tion of the Fire Board. The superintendent (Mr Hume),; was instructed to prepare a report j for the next meeting of the Board. It was decided to enquire from the Housing Department what ar-j rangemeiits are being made for installing fire escapes in the new buildings being erected in the neighbourhood of Hardy Street.'
