Post Office Tower

Five weeks ago today a correspondent under the pen name of "Inactivity" wrote drawing attention to the great danger which existed through earthquake damage to the Post Oil-ice clock tower. Three working drys later .August, ;>rd the Public Works Department sent out a team of workmen who got to work and after much pushing and shoving ejected a monster scaffolding to the lop of the iower in splendid time*. Now. said the townspeople. '"something wili be done' and on Monday morning last, ail eyes were raised expecting to -see tiie tower come tumbling down the shoots in bits and pieces. But no! Activity had ceased and now the populace is wondering ii the object of the scaffolding is to hold the tower up as a bracing against the next earthquake.
