HUTT CLUB CHAMPION PAIRS The Hutt Bowling Club has the distinction of finding the winning team in the Wellington Bowling Centre's champion of champions pairs tournament ended on the Kaori Club's green on Friday, 27th February, in a decisive win for the Hutt Club, who beat Wellington in the final by 2 2-12. In the semi-finals, Hutt (S. Muter and W. Hadwin) beat Hataitai (Mc-. Jennett and McCune) by 25 to 9, and Wellington (A. G. Warwick and S. Loudon) beat Lyall Bay (Ilalo and King) 22 to 14. Hutt owed its victory largely to her consistent play of the veteran lead, who maintained the form which earned for him the reputation of being th& best lead in the tournament. So accurate was his play that his skip's work was made easy, though Hadwin proved that, when required, lie could not only drive with unerring precision, but could also draw. accurately. London, the Wellington skip, drew well, but he was left too much to do by his lead, who was not in his usual form. During the tea interval on the following Saturday afternoon, the president of the Hutt Club, Mr. P, G. Taylor, took the opportunity of congratulating the ; winners on their meritorious performance and thank--ing them for representing the club in such a capable manner- The skip, Mr, HadwKn, responded and gave full praise to his veteran lead, Mr. Muter, for {the wonderful performance he The pair were toasted with musical honours. The club poet, "A.S." has comi - posed the following verses in honour of the event: — Emblazoned on the Roll of Fame, Once more we see Stan Muter's name Who, with Bill Hadwin shares The highest gloj-y and renown, With which w"e can our bowlers crown, The Championship of Pairs. Despite the handicap of years (He's not as young as he appears) Stan stood the gruelling test, While press reporters all concede, He was a most outstanding lead And far out-shone the rest. W T hile Bill's report upon the game Is really very much the same, He says it's only fair To give the credit where it's due, Stan seldom left him much to do And did more than his share. The latest champions we acclaim •Congratulate them on their fame And on the games they fought. With pride we listen to the story And share in the reflected glory That to their club they've brought.
