BASE CAMP RUGBY
s> (N.Z.E.F. Ofßcial News Service.) Cairo, Jan. 6 The first round or the New Zealand base camp Rugby competition in which seven teams are competing, was concluded on the week-end and leaves the unbeaten Headquarters Group team a clear 4 points in the lead. Headquarters, a light compact team, have 11 points; Central Infantry are second with 7 points, closely followed by Artillery and Composite Training Depot with 6 points each. A.£3.0. and Hospital Group are next with 5 points, followed by Northern Infantry with 4 and Southern Infantry with 3. Troop movements have caused constant changes in teams and rugby fortunes have been uncertain. Headquarters have been the least affected by changes and have built up a strong combination. The past few Saturdays have brought real New Zealand Rugby conditions, with a" chili wind blowing and long shadows falling across the Maadi .Sporting Ciub's ground in the late afternoon. The week-end games are usually attended by a large gathering of soldiers. The standard of football has been generally high, and certainly the equal of senior grade in New Zealand.
