SOLDIERS' PARCELS
@ Many people who contributed to the soldiers 1 Christmas'' parcels which were packed- Ity -t he Mayoress' Packing Committee .in September last, have recently received letters of thanks from the sOklier recipients. Parcels from Lower Hutt have apparently travelled far and w'de, for letters of appreciation, have come from a soldiers' convalescent home in Cairo, an outpost in the desert, and a soldier in Fiji. All speak of the choice variety of goods the parcels contained and say what a welcome relief the home cooking and other delicacies provided from army rations.' The usual monthly packing day will be held. on. Thursday of tlris week, at (he Patriotic Rooms. An urgent appeal is made for handkerchiefs, one of which is included in each parcel. If purchased from the committee's funds, handkerchiefs prove an -expensive item, whereas they can be quickly and easily made from any old soft materials, either white or coloured. The committee will arrange for them to be dyed khaki. Other gifts of goods or cash will be most acceptable,. "k'nd.-,hiay be left at the Patriotic ■ "Rooms', any time after 10 a m on - Thursday. _— a: ' ■-
