HANUIMAKIE CLUB

I As predicted, ' the senior championship linal at Rangimarie was again fought out between Jack Nash and Jimniie Tunnell—last year's fianlists. A game full of interest for the substantial gallery that braved the conditions to follow it ended on the 40th hole, where Nash recorded a birdie 3. Conditions were adverse. Both contestants finished at lunch thoroughly drenched. , By scoring a birdie 3 at the ISth, Nash finished up the morning round in 74 to Tunnell's 76-; going in to lunch one up. The afternoon's

play was again extremely interesting. Nash held to his lead of the odd hole till the 23rd, where a birdie 2 and a bogey 3 at the 24th saw him draw 3 up. Faulty play saw him lose the next two holes, but a 4 at the 27th, where Tunnell's ciup was astray, saw Nash turn for home 2 up. Tunnell, who now took charge, played brilliantly. A beautiful stroked putt at the 29th found the cup, after Nash's chip had ringed the hole, but failed to drop. A half in s's at the next and a neatly played 3 at the 31st, saw Tunnell draw level for the first time during the game. The 32nd (514 yards) saw a desperate putt of Nash's for a bogey r> prove of no avail when Tunnell downed a 6footer for a brilliantly played birdie 4. The 33rd was halved in par 4's, and Tunnell drew dormie 2 up with another line birdie 4 at the 34th. The short 17th proved eventful, Nash successfully sinking an 8fooler for a birdie 2 to keep the game alive. Another birdie 3 at the 30th saw Nash again square the game. Hain vvas now falling*in torrents, but with both competitors and the gallery fully determined to see it through, they set out for *he 37th, where a half in s's resulted. The 3Sih was also halved, where Tunnell was unfortunate to miss a short putt. The long 39th was again halved in s's, after Nash's putt had lipped the hole. The game ended at the 40th. when Nash's No. G iron chop stopped 2 feet from the cup and Tunnell missed a 12-footer for the half in birdie 3's. Included in Nash's rounds of 74 and 73 were 9 birdies, while Tunnell, who was round in 7G and 72, recorded 5 birdies. Tunnell's 72 in the afternoon was an extremely well played and gallant* effort in Shocking conditions. Nash, who played very steadily in the morning, failed to produce the same farm in the afternoon.
