Power Board
—<$ At last Thursday's meeting of Che Hutt-Valley Power Board some discussion took place on the question of economy in the use of electricity. Mr. A. W. Press' presided. The secretary of the Electric Power Boards and Supply Authorities wrote suggesting that each supply authority should, through its meter readers, endeavour to ascertain from consumers the hours during which radio receivers were in use and the proportion which received New Zealand and foreign stations. The board decided, after Mr. E. F. Hollands, engineer and general manager, had explained that it would be impracticable for the meter readers to do this work, to leave the gathering of the information by some other means, in the hands of Mr. Hollands. A second letter from the same organisation, suggesting that school children should be requested to write competitive essays on how electricity could best be saved, was held over until next meeting. The third letter was from the Controller of Electricity advised the board in the interests of economy to refuse all requests for Christinas decorative lighting. JMV. Hollands reported that during the last fortnight he had received requests for an additional supply amounting to lf.no k.v.a. lioani's Increased Revenue. Revenue from sales of electric current by the Hutt Valley Electric Power Board continues to increase at a rapid rate. From April 1 to the end of October the revenue from all sources was £104,(105/14/-. an increase of £6835/3/11 over the sales for the same period in 1940. This increase was achieved in spite of a fall in revenue from commercial lighting i £115/9/-,) and public lighting (£97/15/7) caused by the restricted lighting. The board now has U;,!)05 installations and a connected load of J)t|.44fi k.w.
