HUTT VALLLKY CORPS CADET
COMPETITIONS
Before giving a short report of the above competitions, I would like to remind readers that the senior divisions of the above corps, both ambulance and nursing, will meet on Petone Recreation Grounds next Saturday, November Bth. There will be four trophies competed for, one for team-of two and three for teams of four members. On behalf of the corps I extend an invitation to all readers to come to the Petone Recreation Ground and see their local St. John Ambulance and nursing teamß at work.
And now for a short report of our cadets' activities. The high grade nature of the work done showed the keen spirit of the boys and girls, and reflected credit on the cadet officers who were responsible for the teaching of the divisions to which they belong. In the various events there was a total of 149 competitors. We will now give a short report of them. Tiie Dr, Dudley Rose Bowl. This was competed for by teams of four nursing cadets. The work constituted the making of a hospital bed, the placing of a patient there, and the changing of. the sheet with the patient still in bed. The work done by all teams was very good. The trophy was won by '"A" team Lower Hutt Nursing Cadet Division. The A Hhton Cup. This was also competed by teams of four nursing cadets, and was a test of the power to improvise. The Ingenuity shown by all cadets in using just what material was at their disposal was very great, and the team which won, "B" team Lower Hutt Nursing Cadet Division t ! showed outstanding skill in this particular job. In some future article this very important matter, "Improvising," will be dealt with more fully. The Monica Brown Cup. This took the form of an individual test, the work begin bandaging, and was competed for by nursing cadets. The points dealt with were first aid, home nursing, and bandaging. This competition was very closely competed for, two teams tieing for first place. .They were Nursing Cadets P. Arnold and U. Bird. The Freeman Shield. This consisted of marching with stretcher to patient, treating case, and carrying a certain distance, where the stretcher was unloaded and closed. Each team was of four ambulance cadets. The work done by the competing teams was very good indeed. This trophy was won by No. 1 team Petone Cadet Ambulance Division. The Hill Cup. This was competed for by teau s of two members of cadet divisions, and 28 teams competed, so the examiner had a big job of work. Competitors had to render first aid according to latest text book. ,the work was done very satisfactory and the winners were Nursing : Cadets N. Garner and U. Bird. The trophies will be presented at ; the R.S.A. Hall on Saturday, November Bth. —JACOB LfS.
