All the worthy catties in Lower Hutt were helped at ftOlQe time or other -by the band, the report statfed, and the members Were glad to be of such service. Many societies made a point of securing the services of the bahd each year, and a state of traditional good friendship had, grown between the band and a large number of local institutions. Mention was made in -the report of the fiuccesß that attended the quartette party entered by the band in the. competition arranged by the Wellington Bands Association,. in which the quartette was awarded first place. Three members u>f the band are on active service overseas. They are Messrs. F, S. Baker, F. T. Kershaw and A. H. Storey. Several others are about to enter camp, and others are represented in , the Air Force, Territorials, E.P.S., and Home Guard. A class of young players has been formed, which lacks nothing in enthusiasm' and keenness. Except for one occasion, Bandsman O. Brough had attended every practice and parade held during the year, and several other members have remarkably good records.
The audited balance sheet, presented by the treasurer, Mr. D. J. Gillies, showed that the finances of the band are in a good condition, and that payments have been made 'Strictly to date on the set of new I instruments.
The president, Mr. W. D. Burton, congratulated the band on its year'B work, and expressed the hope that in spite of the difflpult times through ' everyone is passing the band will continue to prosper.
Mr. J. Cameron, foundation and life member, who last week celebrated his 89th birthday, said how pleased he was to see such a good attendance at the meeting, and trusted that the younger members would play their role well and keep the band up to tlite same high standard.
Mr. J. Grindle, chairman of the management committee, paid a tribute to the excellent work of the conductor, Mr. A. O. Kaye, who had been so directly responsible for maintaining the good fellowship and well-earned of the band. Mr. Kiiye's rich, experience was reflected in his ability, and th 6 members were very fortunate in possessing such a capable man of proVen worth.
Mention was also made of the fact that Mr. R. D. Smith, hon. auditor, who was unable to be. at the meeting, had been connected with j,the' band from its earliest beginnings, and still , continued to show the greatest of interest; •fhe election of officers resulted as follows:— Patron, Sir Alexander Roberts; sub-patron, Mr. S.
