WATERLOO NOTES
The Waterloo Patriotic Sub-com-mittee held the third of its fortnightly dances at Waterloo School on Saturday night, when some forty couples were present and ispent a, thoroughly enjoyable evening. As a result of this and previous dances, the local Patriotic Funds will benefit by quite a fair sum. The committee is also assisting with the collection of gifts for inclusion in parcels for those serving overseas. All householders in the Waterloo area will have received this week a circular which will give full information regarding the Christmas parcels, and also includes a recipe for the Christmas cake. All gifts should be to hand not later than Wednesday of next week—that is, 18 th September.
The committee recently held a gift afternoon, when many 'articles for inclusion in soldiers' parcels werer received. A card evening held by one of the members also benefited the Patriotic Funds. x At a recent meeting of the committee it was. ad vised that several boys had sold kindling wood, bottles and rags, and had forwarded quite a substantial Bum to the committee aB-a result of their efforts. It was also advised that many ;of the children at the Waterloo School were knitting articles for those on active service, and the committee haß found it possible to assist the children in their good work,.
