The fij'st annual report of the New Zealand Union, of Townswomen's Guild (Inc.), Lower Hutt branch, which will bo-lield-o.il Monday, Ist April, slates that the local branch is devoting itself entirely to war work and charitable actions. On Hie but-
break of war I lie Services of the New Zealand Guild;; was readily accepted l)y Hie Government who. through 'he Defence Department, placed lecturers and demonstrators at their disposal. A team of local members who passed the necessary qualifying examination has the distinction of being (lie. first woman's organisation in New Zealand to produce trained and qualified air raid wardens. Members have visited hospitals, supplying books and luxuries, and have also taken the old people anil convalenseent sol-; diers for motor drives. Useful articles have also been supplied to military hospitals. The guild is hoping to. send a case ot clothing each month to; v/ar-stricken areas, and an appeal is made to the public for assistance in this direction. Members are in training for ambulance work and are taught running repairs. Several hundred casualty beds in private homes are registered for use should the necessity arise. In conclusion, the president. Miss V. Kettle, appeals for a larger membership, but stresess the fact that only loyal women are permitted to enter the ranks. Members meet on common ground, irrespective of creed or party, but all stand four square for loyalty to the Hritish Empire.
