Scout Notes

On Saturday," October 28th, we had one of the cheeriest camp fires ever seen In the district. This was the night on which parents and friends were invited and there w": a full house when "Ruawai" ceremonially opened the camp fire shortly after 8 o'clock. Besides the usual songs, which were sung witn • plenty of vim, there were some jolly good items from the Crew and vairouß troops. "Barnacle," as well as leading two songs, put on a very clever stunt with some of his boys. Led by three Rovers a small party put over some very spirited hakas. The Sea Scouts were there with their bagpipes, and there were many other good stunts. In particular, a little sketch of two radio swindlers trying to sell one of their guaranteed w,ireless sets, given by some of the Ist Lower Hutt, was an excellent item. It was obvious that a great deal of time in I thought had been put into the play, and the hearty laughter it causal was well merited. At the close of 1 the evening supper was served. vVe were very pleased to see "Aorangi," who was with the Scouts all the evening,, joining in the singing md ! ' having a good time. | I St. James's Troop.—We record ; ' with pleasure a good turn done by I St. "James's Troop, who last Satur--1 day morning assisted with a garden fete and proved a great help. | 3rd Lower Hutt.—Last Sat v. 1 day, Scouts of the 3rd Lower Hutt ' troop went for an outing up'the 1 Wainui hills. The idea was to have Scout games, etc., in the afternoon ' and to celebrate Guy Fawkes with a 1 camp fire at night on the top of the hill. Some exciting tracking was 1 held in the afternoon and a really ! good fire built. After descendign into Wainui Valley we had tea ind then leisurely si cended the hill to our fire. What a sight met our eyes.. Huge fires dotted all over the Hutt Valley, and rockets and everything, bursting around. We then lit our firt and let off (he crackers and things. Our fire was easily the highest in the Valley, and we had the best view. Before leaving for home we had a most welcome cup of cocoa each, and then descended the track with the aid of torches. It was voted by all to be a most enjoyable evening. The next district camp fire will be held next Saturday at Petonc. Don't forget to turn up in force, chaps. What about your report, Ist Waterloo? I "RU" and "TAWAI."
