At Monday's Council meeting the mayor (Mr. J. W. Andrews), reported that he had attended the first meeting of the Town Planning Board but the meeting had lapsed as he was the only mdmber present. Cr. Hall said the position was regrettable that the chief magistrates of the various local bodies gave so little attention to such an important matter. By advertisement on page 7, Messrs. Cunningham and Morrison announce that they have decided to close down their Lower nutt business, and offer to the public their entire stock of millinery, etc., at less than cost price to clear. This firm, which is one of the oldest in the Hutt Valley, carries a large stock of high-class wear, which presents an excellent opportunity for ladies to obtain their requirements at very low prices. At Monday's Council meeting it was reported that the lifebuoy which is kept in a box at the eastern end of the old bridge had been recently removed from its position. The matter is considered to be very serious as it might be the means of loss of life and has been placed in the hands of the police.

Rev, J. 10. and Mrs. Lopdell left last Monday for Dunedin, Mr. Lopdell to attend the General Assembly and Mrs. Lopdell the Women's Conference.
