ROCK GARDEN SOCIETY

VISIT TO OKONGORONGO

Some 130 members and friends of the N.Z. Alpine and Rock Garden Society spent a most enjoyable time at "Orongorongo," on Saturday afternoon when they were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Eric Riddiford. Favoured with a perfect summer's day, the visitors enjoyed to the full all the pleasures of a lovely garden presenting a most colourful picture. A feature of the garden, which naturally called for considerable attention from such a gathering of flower lovers, was the extensive rockeries which have for some years provided Mr. and Mrs. Riddiford with a fascinating hobby. From the main rockery, built on the Hillside, the visitors Enjoyed the magni ficent view and revelled in the ex.

tensive collection of alpines and beautiful rock plants growing in the miniature creeks and gullies. A much appreciated afternoon tea was served in the large billiard room where Mrs. Riddiford, assisted by Mr. and Mrs. T. G. Clark and household staff, attended to the visitors. The president, Mr Hoipe 13, Gibbons, 011 behalf of those present, 'thanked Mrs. Riddiford for her hospitality and Mr. T. W. Attwood supported the president's remarks. .
