ALICETOWN WOMEN'S CLUB

§, 1 The Alicetown Women's Club celebrated its sixth anniversary in the form of a social afternoon recently. t Representatives from Silverstream, Stokes Valley, Taita, Belmont Wainui-o-mata Women's Institute's and also the Lower Hutt branch of the Townswomen'S- Guild were present to tender their congratulations. Mrs. V. Vinsen was iii the chair, and accorded a warm welcome to all present. • A motion of sympathy was expressed to Mrs. Parata-Oisen" in the loss of her -mother, niembers standing in silence as a mark of respect. A pleasing little ceremony • took place when Mrs. A. Mclntyre, a valued member of the club, was presented with a token of esteem by the members.. ' - ' The meeting was characterised by a delightfully friendly atmosphere, and a competition in which all joined enthusiastically added much to the enjoyment of the party. The singing circle, under the baton of Mrs. Gibson Young, contributed a bracket of songs, and much appreciated elocutionary items were given by Mrs. Devine. Mrs. Edser delighted all with two vocal numbers. An amusing play, produced by Miss Duncan, and acted by members of the drama circle, was well received. A ■ dainty afternoon tea' was served by the hostesses, after which the beautifully iced birthday cake, the work of two members, was cut and handed round. The competitions, were won by Mesdames Jones and Carpenter.
