HUTT VALLEY TECHNICAL COLLEGE

The monthly meeting of the Board of Managers of the Hutt Valley Memorial Technical College was held last week. The Education Board was thanked for granting the temporary use of a site for the new central school as a sports ground. Mr. E. T. Spidy was thanked for granting the use of the railway workshops garage to the Diesel engine class. The resignations of Mr. D. S. Kennedy from the engineering •classes, and Miss C. M. Catherwood from the home science classes were accepted. Mr. G. F. Hogg was appointed to Mr. Kennedy's position, and it was decided to offer the position of home science mistress to Miss Gunn, of Oamaru. The board decided to make a grant of £40 towards the purchase of a set of instruments for the school orchestra, recently formed by the music master, Mr. McLay. I It was decided to purchase a I generator for the electrical laboratory. The electrical instructor, Mr. Squires, was thanked for building and installing a public address system for the school. ■ The-principal, Mr. A. McFadyen, reported 'that all the construction and most of the design was carried out by Mr. Squires. Practically all the work had been done in "out-of-school" hours, mainly during "the holiday periods. "We are" therefore very much indebted to Mr. Squires for his,very fine work and for the time he-has given to the building of this machine," he said.
