FINAL RESULTS . Keen interest was displayed on Friday evening, when .the final re,sillts of the Queen Carnival contest were announced in tlie window of the -Gas Company's office. As the prdgress returns were made known the keenest rivalry was evinced between the two leading committees, a substantial sum being deposited to decide the issue two minutes before Zero "hour, when the clock struck 10. On the announcement of the final figures, which were made known with commendable promptness, loud cheers were given for the Queen and the Princess Royal. The following are the final results: — Motor Industries * (Miss N. Whiteman) . . 253,793 Manufacturers (Miss M. Taylor) . . . . Women's Organisations (Mrs. Bradley) 86,930 Business and Professions (Miss E. Darby) . . . . 84,084 Sports (Miss M. Howe) . . 78,586 Railways (Miss Briggs) .. 77,440. R.S.A. (Miss J. Cowie) . . 37,452 Mr. H. E. Mcßain, chairman of the ' queen carnival ' committee, stated that the committee is exceedingly pleased with the result, and wishes to thank the various queens* and their helpers. Each vote represents a penny and the amount raised will be a net gain for the Centennial fund. The coronation ceremonies were performed at the Palace Theatre, Petone, on Monday evening, and at the De Luxe Theatre, Lower Hutt, on Tuesday. Throughout the period of the carnival the Business and Professions' Queen Committee, through the efforts of the secretary, Mr. W. C. Gregory, and Mr. W. Toomath, the secretary of the Wellington Early Settlers' Association, made a number of visits to the Wararapa for the purpose of ' interesting several of the old families in the district in the Centennial memorial. Their efforts met with a considerable measure of success, and will provide the addition of several hundred pounds which would otherwise not have been contributed to the Centennial fund. The committee propose to hold a wind social and dance 'in the Horticultural Hall on some date to be arranged in the last week in June.
