CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
MONTHLY MEETING
Th monthly executive meeting of the Lower Hutt Chamber of Commerce was held on Thursday evening. The vice-president, Mr. W. Gregory presided. Regret was expressed at the absence of Mr, A. J. Gearing, who was in hospital, and a wish for his speedy recovery was expressed. The question of street numbering was again discussed. The special committee set up to go into the question reported that the matter was becoming increasingly urgent with the rapid growth of houses. The opinion was expressed that the by-law should be enforced and that the Borough Council should be asked to employ the baths superintendent on the work after the bathing season closed. Gratification was expressed that as a result of the chamber's representations to the council pointing out the undesirability of allowing the vacant section in Ward Street to be used as an amusement park, it was intended to use the area as a parking ground. Mr. C. Moran was appointed as the representative for the Carriers' Association on the chamber. In preparation of the annual meeting, the secretary submitted a list of outstanding accounts, those present undertaking to assist in their collection. It was decided to 1 make arrangements for a speaker at the annual meeting, to be held during the first week in May. It was decided to call council's attention to the growing danger to motorists, particularly in High Street, of double-banking 011 push cycles, and to ask that "steps be taken to prohibit the practice. A- sub-committee was set up to go into thQ question of arranging for a better bus service from the outlying districts.
