"CRIME SCHOOL" Effectively utilising the talents of the six New York.boys who became famous in botli stage and screen ver- : sions of "Dead End," as well as such adult players as Humphrey Bogart and Gale Page, the latter a beautiful newcomer to the screen from radio, the new Warner picture makes a strong case for its basic theme, that the old type of boys 4 reformatory is in fact a "Crime School." The newer methods of dealing with juvenile offenders—designed to prevent their developing into adult criminals—are effectively contrasted with the old by basing the story..on the determined fight made by an idealistic young official to introduce his ideas into a reformatory of the old type. "Crime School": commences a three-day season at the De Luxe Theatre on Saturday. "THE TOP OF THE TOWN" Once more the world is set in tune by Springtime and by the seven song hits in Universale* "Top of the Town," which begins at the Prince Edward Theatre on Thursday. The offerings were created by Jimmy McHugh, who composed the music, and Harold Adamson, who wrote the lyrics. * Doris Nolan and George Murphy, dancing wizard, portray the romantic leads in "Top of the Town." The supporting ; cast includes, besides those previously named, Hugh Herbert, Gregory Ratoff, Henry Armetta, Mischa Auer; Peggy Ryan, the 12-year-old dancing find; the Three Sailors, Jason, Robson and Blue; Ray Mayer and Jack Smart. "THE GO-GETTER" That irascible but lovable old sea-faring, character created by Peter B. Kyne—Cappy Ricks — comes to; life on the screen in th Warner Bros. Cosmopolitan comedy drama, "The Go-Getter," showing at the Prince Edward Theatre on Thursday and Friday. Charles Winninger, well remembered as Gap'n Andy of both stage and screen versions of "Show Boat," plays Cappy in this delightful movie. It is an extremely well balanced cast that portrays this famous yarn of Mr. Kyne's. Apart from the starring trio, there are such' players as Henry O'Neill, John Eldredge, Joseph Crehan, Gordon Oliver, Eddie Acuff,, Herbert Rawlinson, Mary Treen, Helen Lowell, Helen Valkis, and Minerva Urecal. "THE GOOD EARTH" "The Good Earth" comes from Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, the same studio which gave us "San Francisco," "Naughty Marietta," "Romeo and Juliet," "The Great Ziegfeld," "After the Thin Man," "Rose Marie," and so many other fine screen achivements. Which . being the case, it is not altogether surprising that their latest is an epic of production genius. It screens at the Prince Edward Theatre on Sat*urday and Monday. Co-starred in "The Good Earth" are Paul Muni and Luise Rainer. In 1936 both won the individual acting awards from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Together, their performances defy equal.
