WORKSHOPS TENNIS CLUB PICNIC
Favoured by brilliantly fine weather, the club held its auuual picnic at Maori bank recently, it being the most successful yet held, nearly a hundred members and friends attending. During the day a programme of novelty sports events and games were carried out, so that interest in the proceedings never once lagged. Ice creams, lollies, and soft drinks were freely given to every child; also toys for the tiny tots. The highlight of the day's programme was the remarkable fast time put up by R. Corson in the 100 yards. Despite his handicap, lie left the field standing and came on to win by 10 yards. Results were: — Tiny tots race: L. Bowler 1; D. Volk 2. Wheelbarrow (ladies and gents): Mr. and Mrs. Valk: Skipping (girls): D. Maclea and M. Hosie. Block race (boys): J. Stanton 1; R. Facey 2. Tliread-the-needle: Mrs. Cowan 1; Miss Isted 2. Block race (men): N. Cowan 1; J. Facey 2. Hunt the slipper: J. McGhie 1; D. Maclea 2. Elopement race: G. Valk and M. McDonald. 3legged race: M. Topham and J. Stanton. Cigarette race: W. Maclea 1; L. Parkes 2. Block (ladies): Miss Ferguson. Wheel-barrow: P. Cowan and J. McGhie. 3-legged race: W. Maclea and Miss Ferguson. Visitors' race: G. Wallace 1; L. Fliggs 2. The committee responsible for he arrangements were: Messrs. W. Maclea (chairman), J. Facey (secretary), Topham, Root, Perry, Watt, Brown, Clark, Cowan, Du Faur, Corson, Miss Ash, Mrs. Corson, Mrs. Topham, Miss Ord, Miss Johnson. Mrs. Potts.
