GARDEN PARTY
ST. THOMAS'S HOME The annual garden fete of St. Thomas's Boys' Home was held in its picturesque grounds in Nai Nai on Saturday afternoon. The weather was bright and warm and the i grounds, with their smooth lawns and English and native trees and shrubs, were most attractive. A particularly charming feature was the stream, bordered with weeping willows, pungas and manyhued hydrangeas. Pony rides and boating were popular. The Rev. Father Tymons, school chaplain, welcomed the M.P. for Wellington Suburbs, Mr. Combs, and Mrs. W. Nash, and thanked those who had contributed to the success of the fete. He said that he proceeds would be put 11 excellent use in providing amenities and sports requisites for the boys. It was the sisters' object to give the boys as pleasant a time as possible during their youth in a happy environment and to build characters that would fit the boys for life. Mr. Combs, who opened the fete in the absence of the Hon. Walter Nash, who was indisposed, eulogised the work of the sisters. The Mother Superior of Hill Street Convent, Wellington, and Rev. Father Daly were among present. The Municipal Band provided bright music. The stall-holders were: Mesdames M. Gleeson, W. Mainwaring, C. Connolly, C. Hickmott, Hanlon, Lewin, P. Guthrie, J. P. O'Neill, J. Roberts, M. Kelly, L. Doherty, M. Henry, Reader, M. Dowell, C. E. Morine, V. Hay, A.. McDowell, and M. Morrice, Misses I. Curtis, J. Hughes, K. Sullivan, M. Warren, J. Stewart, M. Sannazarro, C. O'Shea, * Goulter, M. Jones, M. Ryan, V. Gapes, McMurrich, N. Scanlon, A. Gibbs, M. Doherty, Robertson and K. Edwards. The side-shows were in charge of Messrs. R. J. McKinley, M. Tracy and F. Lang,
