H. F. Maltby is in his element as the irascible Lord Beckley and strong comedy roles are taken by Athene Sevier, Sara Allgood, Antony Holies and David Burns. Miss Mac Donald sings two complete operatic arias and portions of others. Eddy has three novelty songs "Students' Drinking Song," "Vive L'Opera" and "Virginia Ham and Eggs." The story, taken from Rida Johnson Young's original play and adapted by Noel Langley, opens in 1905 with Miss Mac Donald appearing in old lady makeup for the first time, trying to solve the romantic problenls of Lynne Carver and Toij Brown by telling the girl of her own life so she can choose between love and a career. The story the ngoes back to 1865 and briefly, throws Miss Mac Donald as a prima donna, and Eddy, as a young singing student, together in a cellar cafe in Paris. They love and part because Miss Mac Donald already has promised to wed Barrymore who has been her benefactor and guiding hand to success, "Sally, Irene and Mary" There are stars enough, laughs, tunes and gags enough for a dozen big musicals, plus a screenful of Tomancc and that extra zing and sparkle that make it Darryl F. Zanuck's top-hit, in "Sally Irene and Mary," 20th Century Fox picture coming on Tuesday to the King George Theatre. Alice Faye" and Tony Martin sing the tunefullest songs you've ever heard, as only they know how. With Fred Allen of radio's "Town Tall To-night" twice as funny face-to-face, they lead a whole "who's-who" of pepper-uppers frolicking to town. Joan Davisi, the knee-action gazelle, learns some new Durantics from the famous "Schnozzola." Marjorie Weaver, sensation of "Second Honeymoon" and Louise Hovick do things to Gregory Ratoff'« blood-pressure, who has a champagne bankroll and a gleam in his eye. The cast also includes Barnett ParkeT and J. Edward Bromberg.
