STOKES VALLEY WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

The July meeting of the Stokes Valley Women's Institute was held recently and despite the unpleasant weather was fairly well attended, Mrs. E. Hurney presided and extended a cordial welcome to a new member. It was decided to make a donation to further the work of the Plunket nuise in the Valley. Three members received gifts from the'"Birthday bran tub." Mrs. Barker, accompanied "by Mrs. I. Taylor, rendered two delightful solos. "Angus Macd6nald" and "To a Miniature." Adainty afternoon-tea was served by the tea convener, Mrs. C. O 'Shea, assisted by Mesdames Cobby, Clousten and Summers. A practical demonstration of smocking given by Mrs. Huse occupied the second half of the programme, members displaying keen interest. The winners of the competitions were: Best bloom, Mrs. Holloway; Worked tea towl, Mrs. Swanson 1, Mrs. Warder 2.
