HUTT DEBATING SOCIETY
The Hutt and Petone Club's met at the Working Men's Club to debate on the subject, "That New Zealand can be a self supporting country, irrespective of outside influence," and a well deserved win was awarded to Petone by the Judge, Mr. Hammerfield, and now Petone aj'e the holders o,£ the coveted Nash Cup. At the conclusion of the debate, the Petone Club entertained the visitors at a social gathering which concluded a pleasant evening. Last Thursday evening a club debate was held, the subject being, "That sport, looms too largely, in the public mind." The movers of the motion were, .Messrs Griffen, Ellingford and Benton, and the speakers for the negative were Messrs D. .Benton, Matheson and Macdonald. At the 'conclusion of the debate, the Judge, Mr. K. Scott, a member of the Society awarded a win for the negative. Appreciation was expressed to Mt. E, Scott for the excellent service rendered as judge and also for his remarks to the individual speakers. Next Thursday night will be devoted to Impromptu Speeches. The evening concluded with a vote of thanks to the Chairman, Mt. Phillips.
