LOWER HUTT W.D.F.U.

The Lower Hutt Branch of the Women's Division of the Farmers' Union celebrated its first anniversary with a very vheery birthday party in St. James's Schoolroom. There was a full attendance of members, and guests were present from the city and suburbs. The guests of honour were, Sirs.'J. W. Andrews, the Mayoress, Mrs. W. B. Preshaw (Dominion Organiser), Mrs. A. B. Smith (Dominion Secretary), Mrs. M. J. Goodson (President of the Wellington Branch) and Mrs. H. E. K. Fry Mrs. R. V. 'Brown presided, assisted by Mrs A. C. Stevenson (secretary) and the committee which comprised Mesdames Balmer, J. S. Barton Burr, C. W. Clarke, Goulter, and D. D. Robertson. Two very amusing competitions were held, and a delightful musical programme was much enjoyed. contributing being Mrs M. J. Good-son, Mrs F. Potter and Mrs Murray Ainslie (songs), Mrs K. J. Caverhill (pianofortesolos), Mrs A. B. Smith and Miss Craig McKenzie (elocutionary items). A delicious afternoon tea was served by the committee and Mrs Camden Cooke (convener). A beautiful birthday cake decorated with silver horse-shoes, and daintily iced and with one ■candle, was cut by Mrs Preshaw, as she wished the branch the best of good .fortune and a delightful afternoon was brought to a close.
