HERETAUNGA BOATING CLUB
MONOTYPE RACE WON BY THE RONGOMAI. This race is held annually for the Frank Eiffe Oup. All boats starting are only allowed to be handled toy one man, and it could be imagined what it is like with a little breeze. The Rongomai, handled by Jack Tetley, had a clear victory. The wind being a moderate southerly, the conditions were more or less ideal, ight boats competed, six finishing, tbt Valhalla and the Matara withdrawing The finishing times were as follows: — 'Rongomai, 1.30.0; Lyric 1.40.6; Tornado, 1.46.0; Nukumai, 1.50.5; Unique, 1.55.28; Waituf, 1.60.17. The Club's Annual Picnic. The club's annual picnic was held recently at Maori Bank, weather conditions not being the best but a very pleasant day was spent in swimmig, racing and playing baseball and cricket. Jack Douglas won the club championship for the second time, and was heartily congratulated. The committee responsible for the function also received high praise for the success of the gathering. The result of the day's sports are as follows:—Boys, 10 years andunder: E. Tegg 1, Bennie 2. Girls, 10 and under: B. Taylor 1, C. Saunders 2; 14 and under: M. Douglas 1„ V. Coker 2. Boys, 14 and under: R. Riley 1. F. Bolton 2. Married Ladies' Race: Mrs Saunders 1, P. Bradley 2. Married Men's Race: Hartley 1, R. Selwood 2. Single Men's Race: B. Talbot 1, D .Forsyth 2. Sinugle Ladies' Race: K. Lane 1, V. Park 2. Club championship: J. Douglas 1, D. Taylor 2. Three-legged Race: Burns-Douglas 1, Baggar-V. Harvey 2. 2. Cigarette race: B. Taylor and J. Martin. Swimming: Mr H. J. Taylor; ladies, Misses Park and Lane (dead heat).
