DRAMA FESTIVAL. Mnceuraged |,y the success of its first drama festival, held last year the Southern AVellingfon Federation o'-' Women's Institutes have now completed nrrangcmenls for its ,1.93.1 venture. This year's festival opened at Otaki last week when eight teams competed. The judge's comments were most encouraging. She expressed her pleasure at the high standard shown in the acting, production ami choice of plays. The latter covered a very wide range which im'hided tragedy, drama, farce, comedy and period plays. A further eleven teams from all over the district will compete in St. James's 'Hall, Lower Hutt, on AVednesday and Thursday, September -5 and I'fi. when the plays presenled will be just as varied in type. Miss Ilurdijiger-Meltley, the wellknown actress and' elocutionist will be the adjudicator, This year two extra trophies have been provided, one fur drama and one for comedy. These are open to W.I. members only, but the Mannkau Cup, at. present held by Belmont AV.I,, will, as lasl year, be awarded to tse best play presented at the festival, regardless of type and will be competed for by teams which may include husbands, 'sons or brothers of members. The variety of the plays entered caters for all lastes and will ensure an. interesting evening for everyone. Further del ails appear in our advertising columns.
