Tlic Queen Carnival organised in assist (lie Hull Valley Y.M/'.A.. was brought tc a successful conclusion <m Saturday, the final efforts of each of the three committees being held during the afternoon and evening. The contest has been spread over a period of three months and the supporters of each (.'f the three queens—Miss K. Kenipthome (Ladies' Auxiliary), .Miss V. Burtls (Mj'inberghip), and Miss D, Nicholls (Sports and Industries) — have worked strenuously and enthusiastically.' The greatest effort of the contest was made o" Friday, when a street day was held both in Petone and in Lower Hutt. The "green'' queen suppicters closed their effort on behalf of Miss Nicholls with a children's party on Saturday. The other final functions were a community sing in the ILS.A. Hall, Lower Hutt, organised by the Lower Hutt ILK.A. on behalf of Miss 'Kempthorne, and an evening in Petone for Miss Burns. The central committee met just before the closing hour (Id p.nu, at the iY.M.C.A. to assess the votes, the candidates and their supporters waiting in the lounge for the results. Shortly after .10 p.m the chairman of the central committee, aniiKinced that the final figures were: Miss Kemp'.honie .'10,417 votes, Miss V. Burns 15,.S' Hi, Miss ]>. Nicholls 1;!,. IS 1. The president of the Hutt Yallery Y.M.C.A. (Mr 'W. B. Nicholson) cordially thanked the candidates, their committees, ami supporters for the splendid efforts for the boys and young men cl' the Jl l'll Valley aiea. . The elected queen and the otlny candidates were presented to the gathering and returned thanks, receiving a splendid ovation. The proceeds of the carnival will be utilised* for furnishing ami equipping the building.
