RACING NOTES,

(By Pegaway). Racing this week will be held Waikato on Thursday and Saturday. The fields for both fixtures are good and some high-ciass and interesting racing should take place. Revival has performed well on several occasions which points to him running a solid race in the Maiden Plate the opening event at Carterton on Saturday. A report to hand states chat he is working impressively. Judging by his track work at Trencham Delium is on the improve. This nack is speedy and the Jive furlongs Jf the Novice Stakes at Carterton wjli ouit him nicely. If Hazoor is produced in the Wairarapa County Cup he is going to take a, power of beating. He was fourth .n the New Zealand Cup and second m the Canterbury Cup. His owner, Mr. W. H. Booth is a member of the Carterton Club and no doubt he is keen to win this Cup. Morrath may be taken to the Waikato meeting to contest the hurdles. This marc is in good form for in her last two starts she was successful. She is doing well in her preparation at Awapuni and she will be worth watching this week. The Limond gelding Solarium has been given 9.0 in the Waikato Cup, but this should not stop him. He ran away with the Mitchelson and Avondale Cups. This horse who was a hack a few weeks ago, is a real find among the handicap horses. He can stay and he is going to be prepared for the Auckland Cup.. A very unlucky horse to race at the Avondale meeting was On Parade. With the race -for the Maiden Plate half over he was last and it was not. until the last furlong that lie got clear He then finished fast into fourth place. Next time out in similar company. he should be a good prospect. Thane was a good thing beaten at the Waipukurau meeting. He lost a lot of ground at the start and only had one horse behind him at the home turn. From there he put in a strong run which landed him in second place. This was his first race so lie will benefit by the experience. He is owned by the president of the New Zealand Racing Conference, Mr. J. S. McLeod, who raced such good horses as Runnymede, Raasay, Simba and My Own. The dam of these horses is Tressida who is also the dam of Thane. Thane's sire is Chief Ruler so he should develop into something above the average. 'Symcony 'by Gascony from Symballo who" won the C.J'.C. Welcome Stakes, i s proving a sale-ring bargain. She was purchased by W. l'ine foi >>0 guineas. .She has since been sold to Messrs Smith of Gisbornc, the owners of Legatte. Symcony has now contested six races for three wins and three seconds. Steeton's success in the New Zealand Cup recalls the success of Star Rose in 1900 though Star Rose may be termed a bigger surprise as she paid about a score more than Steeton, Steeton's victory is considered a fluke, but this may not be so as on the whole this year's field wa s lacking in sound stayers and the time 3.25 2-', three seconds slower than the record put up by I'alantua last year is faiily good. The fact that not one of the starters had been successful over two miles and of them only Gold Trail, Great Star and The Smuggler had preciously raced over two miles, certainly reveals the poor quality of our present stayers. Steeton was bred by Mr. G. D. Greenwood. She is by Sutala from Boden, a marc by the Martian horse Danube who won the New Zealand and Great Northern Derbies. Steeton has now contested 88 races for 11 wins, seconds and 16 thirds. Her tota stakes amounts to £2091 ot which 1900 was netted by her success in the Cup. Custodian ran a great race on the opening day at Riccarton that he was considered a Derby prospect. However he was sore and did not start. He is to enjoy a spell but will be back for the autumn racing. It is a P 1 Y that he develops soreness as he is a class galloper. Arauline has developed into a good looking horse and his connections have hopes that he will stay out a middle distance. He is engaged at Carterton and if he- runs well at Hawke Bay he may be worth watching on Saturday. !
