HUTT VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL.
V At last week's meeting of the High School Board of Governors, the principal, Mr. J. N. Millard, reported that the present roll number at the school wati 224 boys and 177 girls; iit'teen pupils had left since the last meeting of the board. ■Several matters in connection with repairs to the school building have been brought under the notice of the Education Department, who have been asked to carry out the necessary work. RECEPTION TO DUKE. The board agreed to the suggestion of the scholars taking part in the reception to the Duke of Gloucester arranged by the Education Board at Newtown Park on December 18. It was pointed out that the arrangements were made a little difficult owing to the fact that the school'will "break up" on December 14. 'Some 250 scholars nave signified their intention of being present at the function, and sufficient teachers have expressed their willingness to arrange for supervision. It wasi decided to lay four and a-half chains of piping on to the middle of the bottom playing ground. SCHOOL CONCERT. The principal reported that the IScEool' concert was a great success. The standard of the performance was high and it had attracted a iull house. The profit was £4 better than last year. The board expressed its thanks to the members of the teaching staff who had given so much of their own time ir. training the children for the concert. Mr. D. A. Ewen was thanked for the very handsome gift to the library of six volumes of European history. It was decided to precede with the work of building a rock garden under the supervision of Mr. E. Hunt.
