INSPIRING G ATiIERiNG< AT IIUTT A bright'and prolitable gathering oi the young people of the Churches of Christ in the Hutt Valley, was convened on Wednesday lust at Lower liutt..T«e chapel was well iilled by the jouth and their supporters. Presiding o\ei tlio gathering was Mr W. B. llibburt, -Dominion Youth Leader of the Churches of Christ. Associated with him on the platform were Mr A. G. Saunders 8.A., preacher of the Church of Christ at Virion Street, Wellington, and Mr F. L. Purnell, 8.A., 8.D., minister of the First Christian. Church, Honolulu, ami temporarily preacher for the Cluuch of Christ at Wanganui. Mr i>. J • Hunter was song leader and Miss E. Burrell officiated as organist. The object of the rally was to stress • the value of youth movemient, and impress upon all the need for consecrated leadership in this great enterpiiae. Mi Saunders, speaking on "The Bible anil Leadership," mentioned that the Bible was itself a leader in the realm of books. It 'also contained the record of many great lenders, e.g., Moses,, Paul,
Christ. "But the lessons to be learned" he said, "is that all these became lead•era, not by grasping at leadership aa at a prize, but by giving consecrated, unselfish and-appropriate Bervice." In speaking to his subject, "Leadership and our' Age," Mr Purnlell outlined the period of the rise and decay of other civilisations, such as, the Babylonian, Egyptian, and Grecco-oman With those lie'compared our own civilisation. He adduced levidence to show that we were in a period of Western Civilisation, which, while flourishing in some respects, manifested signs of <Jecay. To meet ths crisis there was a ringing call for wise, educated, conse* crated Christian leadership, and from the ranks of youth was this most to bfl expected to come.
