A NEW SOPRANO LEAD.

At tie performance of "XI levators," Verdi'a popular and melodious opera, which was staged by the Royal Wellington Choral Union, at tho Wellington Town Hall last Thursday evening under the baton of Mr Stanley Oliver, the soprano lead" was taken by Miss Zell O'Kane of Lower Hutt who played the part of Lco*ora. In its report of this performance a contemporary says: "A new soprano lead of youthful charm and ability was revealed in Miss Zell O'Kane, who sang the music of Leonora with a fluency arid grace that promises well for the future. The freshness and flexability of her pure soprano voice and her understanding approach to each of her numbers, were pleasing features of a delightful performance. Miss O'Kane sang the opening cavatina "The Night was Calm," with naive charm altogether delightful; she was satisfactory in the "Miserere" duet and her security in the many concerted numbers displayed the musician as well as the singer."
