The business meeting of the Women's Christian Temperance Union was held recently in the Church of Christ Sydney Street. Mrs Playter presided over an excellent attendance. An apology for absenco was received from Mrs Hungatroyd. The -devotions were conducted by Mrs Franklyn w,lio read the 23rd Psalm. Tho prayer was lead by Mrs E. Carter. Miss Collie informed us of a generous offer made by a member of the Carterton Union to organise a "Scotch Night" for the Pctono Union. Further arrangements are to be made at the next meeting re this matter. A letter of thanks is to be sent to tho Carteron lady for her offer. Furher discussion took place in reference to the quilt Miss Collie is working to raise funds. Two ladies from the Salvation Army were welcomed. Adjutant Grico addressed the meeting and gave members much encouragement, Lieut. Bartlett sang. Both these ladies were cordially thanked. One new member was initiated. The hostesses for next month are Mrs Bradbury and Mrs Chalmers. The repeating of the Temperance Pledge brought a happy meeting to a close after which afternoon tea was served.
