Dawn on a relief job—the cows all lowing* Solemn and loud and deep. Down in the hollows, the lambs are frisking. Nature awakes from sleep. Workers leaving from the depot, Song lines streaming up the hill. Sammy and Jock, Tommy and Dan, Andy and snarling old Bill. Xoon on a relief job. .the whole gang resting, After the morning toil. Some quite happy, others a-moaning At having their hands to soil. "Oh, do shut up,' says Scotty. "Who do you think you are? Solomon or Mofces, Peter Fraser or Semple, Phar Lap or the morning star?" Dusk on a relief job—the day's work over, And* all of us thinking of fun— With five stout comrades their tongues still clacking, Heading the-homeward run. "What did you do, oh you blighters?"
