Ist BELMONT BOY SCOUT TROOP.

The Ist Belmont Troop is making good progress. There are now only two boys in the Troop who have not passed the Second-class Test and they have only to pass the First Aid to gain their badge. There is a monthly Patrol competition for a handsome shield presented 'by Assistant Scoutmaster Tate. Points are given for inspection for observance of the Scout Law, and for various inter-patrol games and knot ting competitions. The Troop also possesses a small library which is slow ly •growing larger.

The Troop held its first anniverasary recently and badges, and service stars wore presented by Mr Nelson, the District Commissioner. Patrol-Leader Probble gained his carpenter's badge; Patrol-eader R. Kilmister, Seconds F. Alsop, E. Kilmister and Scouts L. Castle, A. Strattton, G. Webley, A. Coomber, L. Tate, J. Castle and D. Beattie all gained their first Service Star, whilo Patrol-Leader H. Beattie gained his fouiith Service Star.

The Troop is at present busily engaged in practising for a concert they intend holding in the near future. Their thanks are due to Mrs Weston and tho members of the committee who are training them.

In the recent Hutt.Valley and Bays

Competitions, the Troop did very well. In tho signalling? competition held at the Ist Lower Quit Den our team (Patrol-Leaders Beattie and Kilmister and Second Kilmister) gained second place, being narrowly defeated by Ist Lower Hutt. In the field mapping and sketching competitions at Lower Hutt we again took second place. Our team was Patrol-Leader Beattie and Scouts D. Beattie and Keith Bennett. We entered two teams in the observation competitions* held at Petone, but the results are .not out yet.

A Court of Honour was held at the residence of the Scoutmaster, Mr Howie, on Saturday evening. Some of tho senior boys have to attend night school so the meeting night was changed to Friday.
