HOCKEY.

(By "Full Back.")

SENIOR B

. The local Senior (A Team) met P«tone on the Recreation Ground last Saturday. As this was the final ckauv pionship game for this reason and both teams had an equal number of championship points, there wa3 a keen struggle for the honour of being run-ners-iup.

Petone won the toss and elected to defend the southern goal. Petone were •without the services of their best back (Watts) and Hutt were playing Harold Ross as substitute for Fred Stoupe. Tthe game was played at a fast rate from the opening bully until the final whistle. The first spell was very even both sets of backsfbeing tried on several occasions, and repulsing all attacks. Neither team were able to open their scoring account before the interval. On resuming there was a slight alteration in the Hutt team. Diamond moved up to inside right". and H. Ross dropped back to the half line. After about ten minutes' even play Diamond finished off a fine forward movement. Hutt. 1, Petone 0. Petono strove hard to equalise, but the local backs and goalie were solid. Play returned to the Visitors' circle^ where Atkins was ".sandwiched" by two opponents; he received severe injuries to his ribs necessitating his retirement for a period. Even play followed until within a/quarter of nn hour of tiiri'e. Atkins, who had returned, took the ball in Petone's twenty - Jive, and after beating several opponents, found the net with a good shot. Hutt 2, Petone 0. Within the next, ten minutes play was very fast and even, the game being held up on two occasions, Atkins being again knocked out and Fleet sharing a like fate. Petone pressed in the final stages- but were unable, to brake down t>he defence. The final score was Hutt 2, Petone 0. Mr. W. Keys was an. efficient Teferee;

The Senior B (B team) defeated V.M.C.A at Kilbirnie by 8 goals to 1.

JUNIORS.

HUTT v. WELLINGTON B. Playing on the Hutt Recreation Ground No. 2, Hutt drew with Welling-

ton B, 5— ; 5. Scorers for Hutt were: Caughley, Lr. Bennet, Matthews (3). Neither team had a full side, both only fielding eight men. The game was fairly even, Hutt having perhaps r slight advantage over Wellington but wero un&Me, as in previous matches, to make the most of their opportuni* ties. The left wing and left half played round wifch. the ball too much and the centre half did not play up to his usual standard. Of the two full backs the left full-back was much the safer of tho two. -
