.A husband's double'lift and the discovery of his deception by his wife were described at Longton when Mrs Florence Louisa Bates; of Wharfs street, Longtdn, applied: for a separation order with mainenance against her husband, John Albert Bates of Hunter Hall-road', Dagenham, on the ground) of desertion^ Mrs Bates was overcome with emotion while giving evidence and on one occasion seemed so near collapsing that she was given a glass; of wate/.She, stated that she had been married 21 years. Her husband was a boiler-maker and until last year she always accompanied him when his -work took / him to. -■different parts of the ; country still maintaining their home at Longton. She had writen to him at -his works at times, begging, him to com homeland work.in the Potteries ■ and when onee 7he wrote saying that he -was unwell she again begged him to come home to be nursed. In February- last, thinking he might be in low water, she went to London to see him, iShe did not know his private address so called at the works He did hot receive, her very cordially and she said, "You don't seem very glad to
see me."
