SACRED CONCERT.

BY ST. JAMES'S CHOIR.

The sacred concert given in St. James's Church last Thursday evening proved most enjoyable to those prosent. The programme was bright ian<! varied. The choirmaster, Mr. L. Fdlton, is to be congratulated on the work of his choir; he is happy in the matex-ial-with which he has to work. Miss Harte's playing emphasised the already known fact that she is a skilful' organist, and her numbers were particularly iine. # Master C. Stott, who suffered from 'boyish nervousness and seemed to have a touch of the prevalent, cold, has a j sweet and pleasing voice, and notJhfwitlvstanding the drawbacks mentioned, gained the. appreciation of his audiI ence.. ! I "Hear My Prayer" by the choir, was beautifully rendered, the voieosj üblending admirably. The anthem, "O I Gladsome Light" was perhaps the bent jof the choir numbers, the choir's interpretation being as near perfect, as possible. i&pecial mention must be made of the soloist, Miss Brown, Whose delightful singing gave much pleasure. The other choir numbers were -also worthy of high praise. Mrs Lcighton sang very sweetly and with much expression, her solo being; most enjoyable. Miss H. Carrick's beau.tif.ul contralto voice was heard to. perfection in. her nine rendering of "How Lovely Are Thy Bwellings.." t It is to be regretted that more people were not present; such high effort is worthy of better patronage.
