HUTT RIVER BOARD
The fortnightly meeting of the/ Hutt Biver Board was held last Thursday evening, there bong present M?r W. T. Strand (ehiairman), and Messrs F. Hewer, J. Mitchell, W. H. Smith and the engineer. Mr. Hnver reported that he had visited the area applied for by Mr. Horlor giving him the exclusive right to remove soil, and recommended that Mr. Horlor's application bo granted. Carried. Tenders for the cleaning and clearing of Waiwetu Channel from Park Bo&d bridge to the mouth were received from E. Tait and Messrs Atkins and Irvine. The chairman explained that he had. discussed the matter with the Pu'blie Works engineers and made arrangements with them to carry out the work subject to the approval of the Board. The chairman's action was approved subject to the approval of the Board's engineer. The engineer reported on the diversion of tbo outfall of the Black Creek. Afi it WES found that the level of the eteek was at times lower than that of tb.6 river the diversion was not possible. The engineer reported that the Hutt Ifcvelopment Company had failed to construct a flood gate at the outfall of the sturm water "drain at Fry's Ljanej also that excavations had impared the efficiency of the stop bank. The clerk stated that the solicitor to the company had boon written ,to directing the works to be done immediately. It was resolved that if the works had not been started by 24th inst., the Board's solicitor should be instructed to take action. Mr. Huse, of Haywards, wrote asking that protective works be provided for his Taita property. The engineer was instructed to carry out the work. Mt. Hewer reported that Mr Nortfhcott of Taita had cut the fence on the western boundary of his property to provide access to the water for his stock. Mr. Hewer's action in instructing t'hc clerk to'1 ask Mr Northcott to repair toe damage was approved. It was resolved to engage two men to clear all groynes of debris. Accounts amounting to £1769/15/9 wer« passed for payment. HUTT BOWLING CONCERT We believe that this year's Bowling Comrer will be well up to the high standard always attained by this popalar event. Any producer submitting . a programme to even the most critical audience cannot fail to please with *uc.U names as Mrs. Amy Woodward Mrs. Wilford Andrews, Mr. Leon De Mauncy, Mr. V. G. Burke, Mr. Harrison (look. Mr. Albert Russell, Mr. Doug. Stark and Mr."33. J. Hill. All bowlers, and especially the Hutt bowlers, are epicures in the matter of concert .proSTammes and patrons cannot fail to be pleased with the feast, of good music that will -be. placed before them next Monday evening. Most of the club members have been supplied with tickets for sale and it is hoped . that within the next few - days they will u*e tlieir best efforts to dispose of thorn. The .box plan is- now open ami seats may be booked at Mr. Eddie's, the , Bowlers' tobacconist, Main Street.
