NOTES OF INTEREST. The Wellington Centre will officially open their season to-night at the Basin Reserve under electric light. A splendid programme has been drawn up and as all the leading athletes are making* their appearance a tip-top gathering should result.
Bert Sutherland, Secretary of the Petone duib, has recovered from his operation, and was present at the meeting on Wednesday evening.
The sporting- public will regret to hoar of the painful accident that befell Jim Morris while engaged in shunting, operations at the Gear Workshops last Saturday mornjng. The writer inquireti how.this popular rider was progressing and is pleased to state that his condition is nnuch improved, but from all accounts his riding career has been brought to a finish.
Morris' popularity as a cyclist can be evidenced by the fact that the local riders stated that they were- lost without him at the meeting on Wednesday.
A number of members of the Hutt Valley Club have asked the writer to mention why this Club had not started training operations as they had attended the Rec. on three occasion to find to their dismay that their club mates and trainers had failed to put in an appearance. Apparently these members have failed to make themselves eonver sant with the regular training hours, and it is ihopedl that this procedure will be remedied before the season gets going. A local trainer who appears to take a great interest in cyclists is, Mr;- Ray Grimwood. He works hard every evening and the boys highly appreciate his efforts. At a meeting of the social committee of the Hutt Valley Harriers recently I thel annual wind-up dance was arranged to be held' in the St. Augustine's Hall on Saturday, Ist December at 8 pjnr.
