LATE SPORTING
Saturday's meeting at Trent.ham was noted for the rout of the favourites. Not one succeeded in gaining a place, although, two second favourites in Radiate and Goshawk were first past the judge. Beaumont jumped much better than on Saturday and won aomfortably in the Second Hurdle Handicap at Trentham on Monday. Polyphemus failed disnmlly and at no stage was he dangerous in the Second Hurdle Handicap on Monday . Ramses paid a nice" two figure dividend on Saturday. Although heavily backed on Saturday Commendation after getting away from the barrier well, could not finish in a
place. Good things were expected of Askari in the First Hurdles Handicap on Saturday at Trentham but the best he could do was to finish in third place. Goshawk's double victory at Trentham will bring him into favour for future events in November. J.. Barry with three wins was the most successful joskey at the Trentham meeting. ■ Pass Book and Equitant gave nothing else a chance in the two-year-old handicap at Trentham. The last named went much better than on the first day. Pikimai was unlucky in the Hunter's Hurdles at Waikato on Monday and should liavc won. Although sent out a hot favourite j for the Nai Nai Handicap, Chelone •failed badly. Boyal Game ran very disappointingly in the" Pearce Handicap yesterday. He really took no part in the race at i all: " j Teri ran up to his best form and nearly brought off a great coup Arrow Lad the winner of the open sprint at Trentham yesterday is in the Steward's Handicap at Biccarton with 7.7 and will command a good deal of respect after his victory over 'Beremoana and Lysander.
