BELMONT PROGRESSIVE ASSOCIATION.
The annual meeting" of the above Association wag held in the local Church ■on Wednesday, 17th October. There "was a good attendance of members, over -which Mr. C. Tilliard Natusch presided.
The minutes of the previous annual meeting were read and confirmed.
The chairman read the annual report ■which showed that the executive committee elected at the last annual meeting had under consideration the following questions:— Water supply, improved transport during the slack hours of the day, extension of the gas main, protection of the Hutt River banks at Belmont, improved postal deliveries, widening, straightening and improving of the main Belmont road, and a new bridge over the Hutt River giving access to the main bitumen road on the other side of the valley. An entertainment committee had, by means of concerts and a gala, raised the sum of £34/11/6 towards the purchasing of a site for a public hall and kindergarten, but owing to the lack of a suitable level site the committee had so far been unable to do anything further in the matter.
The meeting was then asked for any discussion on matters arising out of the annual report and after several members had discussed the bridge and water srupply stressing the fact that the committeee should push on anything for the advancement of the district at the same time they should not go into anything that would make the rates increase.
The following committee was elected: —Messrs Smith, Wilby, Arnold, Turner, Goodwin, Wallace, Payne, Berry, Christenson, Hebden and Stelliu with Mr. C. Tilliard Natusch as chairman and Mr.
D. S. Powell as hon. secretary and treasurer. The question of raising the annual subscription from 2/6 to 5/- was put to the meeting and after some discussion was defeated by a large majority.
The;' meeting closed with a hearty vote of thanks to the outgoing committee, not forgetting the chairman who had often been out of pocket as well as giving a lot of time to the business of the Association generally.
