LOCAL AND GENERAL.

We congratulate the Scenic Reserves Committee of the Council on the vastly improved conditions of its small reserve in Heke Street adjoining Eastern Hutt School. The area has been dug over, planted with a variety of ornamental shrubs, and fenced on the road frontage. From being an eye-sore it is now a beauty spot. " The following information is supplied by Mr. C. B. Robinson, of White's Line: —Rainfall for the month of September 4.32 inches on 16 days. The maximum fall was .80 inches on 11th. Miss A. Bunny, of Lower Hutt, is the guest of Mrs. A. Hatrick, junr. Mr. G. L. Gibson (Lower Hutt) was successful in gaining his surveyor's license at the recent examination held ~hy the Surveyor's Board. It is with deep regret that we record the death of Mrs. List, wife of Mr J. W. List, of Lower Hutt, which took place last week after a long illness. The official opening of the Bouleott School will take place on Monday next at 8 o'clock. The Minister of Education and the Member for the District will be present. Mr. Claude Haydon has arranged to give a concert in aid of the funds of Knox Church Choir Fund. The programme will be supported by some of the most prominent local artists, Fuller particulars may be found in the advertising columns. The opening practice of the Hutt District Cricket Club will take place next Saturday. As grade matches will be commencing shortly players will not have a great opportunity of getting into form; consequently it is anticipated that full advantage will be taken of this opportunity by old club and intending new members alike. The coaching arrangements for the season are ?r\ the hands of Messrs W. A. Aldersle v and E. McLeod, and the players selected for instruction should receive valuable tuition from these experienced j players.
