HUTT POWER BOARD

The Hutt __ Valley Electric Power Board met on Thursday afternoon there being present Messrs W. H. P. Barber (chairman), E. Windley, J. W. MeEwan, A. J. MeCurdy, A. J. Hobbs, A : Walker, A. W. Press and S. Blackley. An application was received from the Wellington Hospital Board asking the board to provide a light near the Macarthy Home at Belniont, offering to contribute £1 a year towards the cost. The Secretary had replied stating that the'usual charges for such lamps were £3 lOs per 100 c.p. lamp, or £3 per 60 c.p. lamp. The matter was referred to the accountant for a report. Beports had been received from numerous powers boards giving information in reference to trading in electrical appliances as carried on by them. Thames Valley Power Board replied that the capital involved in its department was £50,000, the cost of runningwas £7000 per annum, staff 15, profit £3500. They had 4993 consumers with 240 ranges, 1422 water heaters and 2390 motors. The board stocked everything electrical, purchased from New Zealand firms and indented, and considered that trading had assisted in the sale of current. Information from other boards showed that the trading was on a much smaller scale. The Purchase and Technical Committee therefore, recommended that no change be made in the present methods of the board, and this was agreed to.
