GAS BOARD
The monthly meeting of the Petone and Lower Hutt Gas Lighting Board was held in the Board's rooxn on Tuesday. Present: Messrs W .G. Lodder (ehaii\), C. P. Broekelbank, E. Hogg, V. •Jaeobson, W. T .Strand, W. G. Meldrum. The Commissioner of Crown Lands wrote advising that • the exchange of Jand between the Board and the Crown to enable Bouverie Street to be continued, has now been.:gazetted.—Received. The clerk, Hutt River Board wrote
granting, permission to carry the 12 inch
. main through the concrete wall near the of the new Hutt -Bridge.—Received. The necessary. resolution was passed applying. for the Government Loan .Board's sanction, to borrow the sum of £40,000.f0r 36£ years-for the purpose of providing mains to include the reticulation and other works appertaining to the distribution. loan, .1928. The Belmont Progressive Association "wrote..applying for. the extension" of the 3*as mains to Belmont North, and for•warding a petition.from..2.4 agreeing to instal 14 cookers -and 10 gas rings. Thei ; gas manager stated that the cost >pf-installing would be £839 18s so that it would not be a-payable proposition. Jle estimated revenue*would be approximately £280. .It'was decided to hold over consideration until next meeting for further information. 'Mr C. Natusch, Belmont, wrote/complaining Of the. lack ■of pressure at special hours during the day. ' The manager stated that no relief can '"be given until• a" high pressure main is installed. It was decided that steps be taken instal the main-with, the least posible > rdelay. The gas manager (Mr H; Appleyard) 'Teported for the month of May as fo]- j lows: —Coal carbonised 583 tons; gas manufactured 8,378,000 cubic feet; in- • creased manufacture over May, 1927, 373,700 cubic feet. Ooke to the value of £164 14s 3d had been sold to various --consumers and 5,851 gallons of tar had : also been sold.
There have been ?>9 new services installed, 46 new cookers, 15 coppers, 5 ■<?aliphonts, 11 gas fires, 92 meters •changed, 57 new meters; 21 meters wore "repaired -at th.©^ works. -Mains liaye been 'laid in Main Road (Kingston Park Es"fcate), TTai ZSTai Road, Bossiter Avenue. •The alteration to the 12 inch main on the western side of the river for the new bridge at Lower Hutt, was carried -* -out during the month. The balance sheet tip to the 31st "March was presented and showed a credit balance of £6, 816 19s Sd for the ■year's work. '
