GAS BOARD

The monthly meeting of the Petone and Lower Hutt Gas Lighting Board was held in the Board's rooxn on Tuesday. Present: Messrs W .G. Lodder (ehaii\), C. P. Broekelbank, E. Hogg, V. •Jaeobson, W. T .Strand, W. G. Meldrum. The necessary. resolution was passed applying. for the Government Loan .Board's sanction, to borrow the sum of £40,000.f0r 36£ years-for the purpose of providing mains to include the reticulation and other works appertaining to the distribution. loan, .1928. The Belmont Progressive Association "wrote..applying for. the extension" of the 3*as mains to Belmont North, and for•warding a petition.from..2.4 agreeing to instal 14 cookers -and 10 gas rings. Thei ; gas manager stated that the cost >pf-installing would be £839 18s so that it would not be a-payable proposition. It was decided that steps be taken instal the main-with, the least posible > rdelay. The gas manager (Mr H; Appleyard) 'Teported for the month of May as fo]- j lows: —Coal carbonised 583 tons; gas manufactured 8,378,000 cubic feet; in- • creased manufacture over May, 1927, 373,700 cubic feet. Ooke to the value of £164 14s 3d had been sold to various --consumers and 5,851 gallons of tar had : also been sold.
